  • How do I test a crank position sensor?

I have a hpdi that I can't get to start because there is no spark. Someone suggested that a faulty CPS could be the cause. How do I test it to see if it is functioning? Thnaks.

Too bad the year and model of your motor is not known. There are HPDI's and then there are HPDI's.

A test harness is generally attached to the sensor, between the sensor and the wire harness. The output peak voltage is then checked for specifications at various RPM's.

The resistance of the sensor can also be checked.

Finally, the air gap between the sensor and the flywheel is checked to make sure it is within specification.

This is all in your service manual.

and that motor will spark and run with the CPS tossed in the creek.
          find a better internet guru.

will also spark and run with the TPS tossed in the creek.

will actually do it with BOTH tossed in the creek.

like I said, find a better net guru.
