Thinking about repowering my boat. How does the SHO stack up against the standard motor?

I was hoping for some info from the Yamaha techs on this. From just looking at the specs on the two motors they look the same. The listed weight, displacement, and rpm range are identical as listed on the website. I realize that both motors are new designs, but what makes the SHO the hotter motor? If the motor has a few extra ponies (mph) in it, its worth the $500 more price wise. Plus the cool factor of having an SHO hanging on the transom. -
marketing,decals and that's about it.
for a long time the sho was only avalible in a 20" shaft.
I understand that is going to change.
