  • L 225 txrs full throttle and starting issue

The 1994 motor just had the low pressure pumps, spark plugs, and fuel filters replaced. It ran like brand new for 20 minutes and would start up perfectly 3 or four times moving around different fishing spots. After that it would only start in neutral with some additional throttle. It also would lose 4mph of power wide open, kick back up with a bit of sputter, and drop back to 4mph less power again.

    is this a TPS issue?

Since this problem happened pretty much immediately after a service, the most logical thing is to look back at the work that was done and verify everything is solid and no air leaks from the filters or LP pump diaphragms.

What's the fuel bulb doing when the problem happens? Soft, flat, hard?

The bulb was tight leaving the ramp, but I didn’t check it after the issues occurred.
Prior to replacing the pumps, the motor would drop back to half power. If would stay at full power if someone was squeezing the bulb while under way.

The engine will always start at idle position when cold, but requires throttle in neutral once warmed up even with a hard squeeze bulb.

sounds like a flooding issue, if you have to give it more air.
make sure the pressure stays in spec and not too high.
Injector stuck open problem possibly if rail pressure stays in spec

Does the on-engine fuel/water separator container stay about 1/2 to 2/3 filled - even when you have the shutdown? It would also be interesting to know how much fuel you can drain out of the VST immediately after the shutdown (whether that "tank" is low). Those are at least "free" things you can check to at least see if you're getting good fuel flow to the VST. Although I suppose this is pretty much the same thing as checking for PSI as 99 said - except checking for PSI also tells you HP pump health?
