  • Oil alarm problem

Hi guys, am asking this question on behalf of my brother in law.
He has a Yamaha 2 stroke 6n7 130hp, had it shipped to him in the tropics. When the key is turned the alarm sounds and stays on. The alarm goes away when the slide on the remote tank sender unit slides DOWN (tank empty). The pump still operates fine when the reservoir on the outboard gets low. The pump doesn't operate when the slide on the remote tank reservoir is in the DOWN (tank empty) position and the alarm is off, only when the slide is UP (tank full) and the alarm is on.
The existing oil transfer control unit is a 6e5. We have been sent a replacement unit which is for a 6n7, however when this was installed the pump would never work, and it didn't resolve the alarm issue. The sensor unit in the remote tank has also been replaced with a 6e5 one which we were sent.
So it seems that the remote tank sensor is functioning correctly for transferring oil, but the alarm side of it is inverted? Anyone had this problem?

I would question the wiring system. Has the wiring been cut/modified/or ???

The remote (for rodnut, boat mounted) oil tank sensor switch has nothing what so ever to do with the alarm system. It only tells the motor if the remote (boat mounted) tank has an adequate amount of oil, or not, for the automatic transfer function to operate.

There are three switches on the main (for rodnut, engine mounted) oil tank sensor/switch assembly. The switches are top, middle and bottom. The bottom switch closing, due to the float dropping due to a low oil supply, in the main (engine mounted) tank only, causes the alarm to sound.

Without knowing the exact model number or the engine identification number it is impossible to comment upon what oil control module that should be on the motor.
