  • rusted bolts on steering bracket at motor

    Hi,
How difficult will it be to remove severely rusted studss holding the steering arm to the outboard engine itself.
It looks like steel not ss were used.
The nuts are also badly rusted.
If the motor part needs to be re threaded, what size thread should be used?

You didn't specify the model and year. But, I picked up a F60 2004 - and those bolts went beyond corrosion and actually failed. I had to remove power head to get at the spot where these mount. My hunch is that you'll need to do the same. It's not a horrible job - unless you have a bigger engine.

But, you may be referencing the tiller arm - it's not clear. If so, that's less invovlved. You'll need to provide some more specifics
