704 Single Binnacle Control Box Supersession

Appears the most current part number is 704-48205-R1-00. However, I've found 704-48205-R0-00 for sale online with multiple reputable dealers for the same price as the current part number. My question is....How do I know if these 2 parts numbers reflect the exact same part....Or has the most current part number been upgraded/enhanced/etc?

The two different part numbers do not reflect the exact same part. Some design change was make to the 704-48205-R0-00 control box at which time it was given the new part number.. To indicate that it is a different part.

If the Yamaha parts catalog was updated to show the 704-48205-R1-00 control box, then you could compare it to the 704-48205-R0-00 control box (which is shown) to determine what component part(s) within the control box are different.

Referencing the most recent rigging guide found on Yams website, 704-48205-R0-00 is the part number. But like I noted in my prior post, there are a few reputable distributors listed below that are advertising the 704-48205-R1-00 part number....simyama even lists 704-48205-R0-00 being superseded by 704-48205-R1-00...

Boats.net, Yamaha rigging guide, and a few other distributors list 704-48205-R0-00 as the current part number.

Updates take time. The R1-00 is the latest control box. Replaces the R0-00 control box.

If you could get into the Yamaha US database you could see this now. The Yamaha Rigging Guide might one day show the R1-00 box. By which time the R1-00 might have already been superceded by the R2-00 or later box.

You noted that when the part number changes this means some change has been made. I’m just wondering what this change is, since no aesthetic change was made.

Until Yamaha US publishes the parts breakdown for the R1-00 control box, I know of no way to determine what the change was about.
