  • tachometer question

I would like to hook the tachometer I use to tune my car to my 1998 2 stroke 25 hp yamaha C25ELHT. Just temporarily to fine tune my outboard. Is this possible and how would I go about it. Thanks Bill

what kind of a automotive tach do you have?
something that hooked to a spark plug or maybe to a set of points in the distributor of old car motors?

outboard tachs I have dealt with use pulses from the lighting coil magnets under the flywheel

I use the tach on my 1951 classic ford flathead- old style with two leads that connect to the ignition coil and the positive post on the battery.

You could always try it, but I have no idea if that pulsing of the magnets under the flywheel could be translated to RPM on that tach.

most people would just use the proper equipment for the job

you can always get a photo-tach from harbor freight for tuning reasons ,some nicer timing lights have a tach display , just divide by two if you have a two stroke
