2-Stroke V6 lower unit difference

I'm looking for a lower unit for my -93 V6 175hp and read somewhere that there are different ones. It didn’t say what differs but 84-93 was apparently different from the 94-08. Can I fit a newer lower unit to my engine? Are the compatible?

Most like kind V6 two stroke lower units will interchange. Like kind being either a 20" lower unit or a 25" lower unit. Of course the gear ratio may be different. In which case a different propeller may be needed.

Thanks for the reply. Apparently the shift rod trough the middle section is different but the connection to
the lower unit shall be the same. Looked at some exploded views and there are at least four different versions of the shift rod
