Yamaha 2000 ,200 Hpdi Remote oil tank pump situation ????

Pump has stopped supplying oil to the tank at the motor. Level switch checks ok , toggle switch checks ok , pump at tank runs with Direct hook up to battery,Brown to ground...Blue to pos. Removed tank and checked all hoses to include filter, all clear. Tank is clean. With remote tank on table with plenty of oil it would not pump. Took cover off pump looking for obstruction , none found. Took discharge hose off pump to let out any air , still would not pump !! Ok so now I get new pump thinking that maybe the pump has lost it's ability to pump or that the motor is tired and not spinning fast enough. Install the new pump as the old one was, still won't pump. Tried reversing the wires IT PUMPS checked the wiring schematic 3 times Brown is grd Blue is pos....Now not wanting to burn up the new motor by changing the wire ends and run it backwards ( has arrow for flow on it) I rotate the pump and hook up supply from the tank to the discharge port and suction to the supply line to the tank on the motor. Pump now will transfer oil to main tank. Does not make any sense why pump has to be hooked up backwards to pump oil. Does anyone know if I change the wires to run the motor in reverse will it hurt the motor ???? This whole thing does not make sense. Thanks in advance Charlesretired

You have it backwards. Brown to the pump is positive. Blue is negative. The brown starts out as yellow by the way and changes colour on its way to the pump.

With the key in the ON position you should have 12 volts positive on the brown wire.

The toggle switch or the ECU will apply a ground to the blue wire to make the pump run.

    Back to the drawing board.

The system is pretty straightforward if one cares to take the time to understand how it all works together.

First thing to know and remember is that a ground reference triggers the pump. All too many are thinking it is like the light switch in their home.

Second thing to know and remember is that a component may be perfectly fine but that component might be relying on something else to work correctly, first. If that something else does not work first then other stuff won't work.

Long range plan is to create and publish an explanation of what does what, and when, that hopefully will be understandable if one cares to read it and think about it. You guys that understand the system can be my cross check.

Thanks Boscoe....I understand the wiring and at the present time all wires are connected as they should be. My situation is that the hoses had to be connected to the opposite ports for the oil to be pumped to the main tank. I know this because when all is installed I am able to fill the main tank with the emergency switch.

did you not see where he told you that you had the wires backward as to which was pos and neg?
