  • Leaking tilt piston

I have a 1999 250 ox66, Ijust put the boat in the water and noticed a sheen on the surface of the water, which I traced to a leak from the single pistion for the tilt. It looks like a pin wrench would get the nut off. Can I do this with the boat in the water? I recently replaced leaking nut seal on the hydralic steering shaft. It seems like a similar repair. Also where is the fill port located and what kind of oil do I use?

    Thank You GUY B.

I would think it's definitely an out-of-water repair, I've never seen anyone attempt it while the boat was in the water, you would contaminate the whole system. Here's a link to an exploded diagram:

Item #23 is the reservoir fill cap, located on the starboard side of the unit.

      Guy,
You can use Yamaha t/t fluid or Dexron 2 ATF (automatic transmission fluid).
