  • 2006 Yamaha 90hp - Submerged

I have a 2006 Yamaha 90hp that was submerged in salt water for 3 hours. The motor was flushed and appears to be saved. All electronics are destroyed.

Q#1 - Is the wiring harness from the 2006 Yamaha 115hp the same?
Q#2 - Will the Lower Unit off the 90hp fit the 115hp if the shaft is the same length?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 2006 Yamaha 115hp with the Lower Unit damaged for a reasonable price and wondering if I can piece together a decent motor from the 2.

    Constructive comments appreciated.

    Cheers!

If the motor was running at the time it was submerged I'd expect that salt water to be ingested more completely throughout motor causing more damage....to me 3 hours of salt water is quite a while with possible damage showing up in the future. I believe you can piece together a motor that will run, but not sure of the future?.....just my thoughts on this...
    Good luck!

The wire harness for a 90 HP and a 115 HP are not the same part number. I don't think they will interchange.

      6H0-82590-80-00 YAMAHA WIRE HARNESS ASSY

      6N7-82590-40-00 YAMAHA WIRE HARNESS ASSY

With respect to the lower unit, they also are not the same part number.

      6H1-45300-16-8D LOWER UNIT ASSY

      6E5-45300-17-8D YAMAHA LOWER UNIT ASSY

The upper casing to which a 90 HP lower unit attaches is a different part number than the upper casing to which a 115 HP lower unit attaches. It would take a trial and error installation to see if the 90 lower unit can be used on a 115 motor.

ALL electronics destroyed!? already!? "in fact they are"

I asked just because I saw a few submerged motors run just after wash the motor with fresh water (but not opening the motor), clean fuel system and new spark plugs. but for sure sooner or later issues with some electronics or wiring may show up "Even other problems may occur if motor isn´t lube internally".

If my motor I would dismantle ALL motor washing it and lubrificate it carefully, than rebuild it

Sorry to year about your difficulty.

You may be able to use the 90 for core on a rebuilt 115 lower end. After confirmation from a supplier and putting the power head through the paces, I'd offer up to market price for the 115 less an installed lower unit. Who else would buy it?

Come on guys he asked simple questions and Bosco answered them, the parts do not look like they will interchange.
If you have something that says that is wrong with that answer then bring it on. But all the other stuff is just BS

Sorry, I didn't clarify. Re-manufacture shops often require a viable core. If the 115's lower unit is unacceptable, they may accept the 90's lower unit as core for a rebuilt 115 lower unit. Frigidduck might then get a complete 115 for less cost and risk than other alternatives.

              Was the boat insured?
