  • Help Multifunction guage

    Hi
I have bought second hand a boat with a 2003 F30. The boat has on the dash a single multi function gauge (in appearance it looks like a 6Y5-8350T-83-00) which unfortunately appears to not function at all, it is dead. I have had the engine serviced by a major UK outboard engineering firm, full service plus pump impeller, timing belt, thermostat, gearbox seals, the engine has been pronounced healthy and serviceable. I now wish to fault find the dashboard gauge but have as yet been unable to source a wiring/rigging diagram. I have a copy of the 2008 rigging guide but they all seem to show multi gauge set ups and don't appear applicable. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to mention, the engine is full remote, electric start, power trim/tilt

that 2008 Rigging Guide Chapter 5 is definitely applicable
      and should be very helpful,
in making sure you have the dipswitches correct,
and for the wiring between gauge and engine -
which is done with the 4-wire plugs.

As for the gauge being 'dead' - that is easily investigated:
in addition to the wires ending in molded plugs,
the gauge has several individual wires, ending in 'bullet connectors':

yellow is the 12V+ power -
normally, that connects to a fused harness from the keyswitch
so that it is 'hot' when the key is on

black is ground - plugs into the same harness to the keyswitch

with those two connected - the gauge should 'power up' -
and for the first few seconds, all LCD segments illuminate as a 'self test' of the display.

You can 'bench test' that if you like:
confirm absolutely that you are connecting power and ground

the blue wire is for the display backlight -
Yamaha provides jumpers on the power harness,
so that the blue wire can be connected to the yellow,
'always on' when the key is on.

      Green is the tach signal,
also plugs into that harness from the key switch.
