pull the head and you will find the anode, other than a white crust, looks like new.
about the 3rd time it dries off its no longer functional.
and there are 2 of them.
I would not bother with it.

So replacing the trim tab and bracket anodes when needed will keep our 90 Hp TLTD good to go?

          Thx

the only time, if you pay attention, you ever see anodes eat away are those that stay in the water.
I have motors in the dry stack that are 20 yrs old with the original tab and bracket anode.

like I say about the 3rd time they dry and get that whitish looking coating they are no longer a sacrificial anode.
they are now just another piece of metal along for the ride.

NEVER EVA wire brush an anode.
if you need to clean it use a 60grit sand paper.
do not use any type of carbide paper.

is that to do with the steel in the wire brush and the carbide in the sandpaper doing something strange to the anode surface?

My trim tab anode erodes and is replaced every two years. Trailer boat. I think the bracket anode will last forever.

most time the tab anode gets cleaned by propwash and sand.
Yamaha recommends cleaning with 60grit sandpaper prior to launch.
the US navy says never wire brush an anode made of zinc due to the metal transfer.

yes there is maint in the various seawater systems for magazine sprinklers and CIWS seawater cooling.\
yes there is a 4 day class on anodes and anode maint.

the H2 browning class was only 5 days.
                  a lot more fun though.
