  • F70 Vapor Shut Off Valve

I have a pair of F70 outboards. I had the flywheel cover off and noticed a ticking sound coming from the vapor shut off valve on both motors. Looks like the solenoid is energizing frequently.
    Is this normal?

I am not a Yamaha tech that does this for a living,
but I have not heard of this valve, where is it located on the motor?

Need the engine model and SN off the Transom bracket ID tag. So we know what engine you have

Yeah, there's not tons of info on the vapor solenoid valve in the service manual, but there is a test for it. There's a resistance test and a negative pressure test. Its purpose is to prevent fuel vapors from re-entering the air intake to prevent vapor-lock on hot starts. So just knowing that much, I would say it shouldn't be opening and closing frequently like that.

If they are not suppose to do it like that, it is strange that both motors are doing it..
what activates them? ECU? vacuum or pressure switch?
each motor has it's own ECU.
should they be open or closed when running? what about not runing?

Could it be something that is common to both motors?
              like a bad connection ?

all I have is a bunch of questions

I presume that it is energizing just by the noise and feeling by placing finger on it. Maybe pull the plug off.
