  • Battery Size for 15HP Yamaha

Hoping you guys can help me, total newbie to the boating world, but just got a 11 foot 1975 whaler and this Yamaha 15HP 4 stroke on it. It is a tiller setup with electric start. Can someone confirm the year and model of this as I can't find anything online (1999 Motor with a model # F15ESHY?).

Also, my main question is it came with a Everstart Marine Battery, Group Size 24DC with 690 Amps. But it is huge and takes up a lot of space. Seems overkill for this boat and motor. Only thing hooked up to it is the motor, no lights or anything else.

Can anyone recommend a smaller battery that would work and not take up so much space (I'm guessing using something for ATV/moto or similar). This is all new to me, so any information is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I’d rather have a little extra juice than not quite enough.

Looks like a U1 size battery is the smallest I can go. Would a battery like this be sufficient with 350 CCA (https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NBP8...nGardenBattery) and a battery box like this for a U1 battery (https://www.westmarine.com/buy/west-...14?recordNum=3).

If not, do you have any specific recommendations? My current batter is big and 43 pounds, saving 20 lbs and some space would be nice on my 11 foot tender. Thanks
