Yamaha F115 (2003) alarm - turns over won't start - help please

I have a 2003 Yamaha TXRB when I turn the key to run the alarm sounds. It ran fine last fall. It I try to start it, it will turn over but not start. (I believe the alarm prevents it from starting at that point.) The kill switch is fine (I even tried to by-pass it and it still sounds so I do no believe that is the issue.) Battery is good, gas is good, oil level is good. Any help would be very much appreciated, the service centers here are basically closed.

the alarm sounding, while you crank the engine,
is the ECM telling you it is getting a 'stop signal':
the white wire of the control harness is grounded.

And yes, of course it will not start / run with a stop signal.

Typically, that means the kill switch lanyard is pulled.


When you say you 'tried to bypass' the kill switch -
did you connect wires directly?
that's the same thing as pulling the lanyard.

What you need to do is simply unplug the kill switch
either the white, or black, or both.

Alarm sounds as soon as I turn the key before I try to crank it. Alarm sounds with the kill switch disconnected, no wires connected.

I read it the alarm sounds when the key is turned just to the run position, not to the start position

could this motor have a water in fuel alarm, that is causing the alarm to sound while in neutral?
That may be easy to check, put motor in gear and turn on the key.
But that should not keep the motor from starting unless there is so much water it is not getting gas to run

Alarm sounds when in gear also. (I don't think this model has an alarm for water in the fuel, I think that came out a few years after this one.)

Well, that's a puzzler.
As 99 suggests,
the only alarm designed to sound at key on, is WIF
and by itself, will not keep the engine from starting.
It also is not a continuous sound, but a repeating 'beep'
And I'm doubtful that engine has WIF alarm function in its ECM anyway.

I'm stumped.

are you sure the fuel pumps run and no water in VST/filters?
fuel pressure in spec?
do you have spark at the plugs?
run a compression test on all cylinders
cam belt broken or jumped?

Not sure of any alarm what would keep motor from starting, but kill switch wire grounded.
can you disconnect the wire from ECU to make sure that wire itself is not grounded in the harness

Was told (if it won't start) alarm will for low oil pressure or kill switch. I think the kill switch is ok. Anyone know about how to check the oil pressure sensor?

the oil pressure 'sensor' is a simple switch -
below ~22 psi it is 'closed' - it conducts electricity/has continuity
once pressure is > 22 psi it is 'open' - does not conduct electricity/no continuity

check it if you like -
but it will NOT cause an alarm at key on
nor will it prevent the engine from starting

think about it - is there any oil pressure when the engine is off?
of course not
the ECM doesn't care about oil pressure
until after the engine has been running for several seconds
