  • OX66/HPDI Engines

Sorry for the Novice question....Is the OX66 and HPDI 2 different engines? I have twin 2001 OX66 200's Saltwater series. Just looking at the maintenance sticky and Had me wondering. Thanks

    Completely different power plants.

The OX66 is a conventional fuel injection motor. It injects an oil/gasoline mix into the intake system. The engine draws the mix in, lubricates itself with the oil and then combustion happens when the gasoline gets into the combustion chamber.

The HPDI is a different animal altogether. The majority of the oil is dribbled into the intake. All of the fuel, together with a tiny bit of oil, is injected directly into the combustion chamber.

Although a bit thirsty, the OX66 is tried and true. The HPDI has a Rube (Go*ldberg) fueling system and requires lots more care. What in the hell is with the filtering system of this forum that it won't let me type the metal Au?
