  • 2003 F90TLRB ECU Diagnostic Codes ???

Does the ECU on a 2003 F90TLRB retain any diagnostic information or error codes?

If it does, can anyone access them, or is it Yamaha proprietary?

Can a Yamaha service rep retrieve any diagnostic information from the ECU?

I have Clymer and Yamaha service manuals for my F90 motor. The Clymer manual mentions diagnostic error codes on the 115, 200 and 225, but not on the F90. The Yamaha F90 manual doesn't mention them at all, and I don't see any extra connectors anywhere that plug into the ECU.

I was thinking of purchasing a diagnostic indicator light and harness adapter, but I don't see any extra connectors that plug into the ECU, so figure it may be a waste of time and money. It looks like it may be for EFI systems instead of carb'ed motors.

    Does anyone know for sure?

Your model has a CDI, not an ECU. It does not have data capture and storage capability.

I don't think that any F90, carbureted or with EFI, has diagnostic capability.

      Thanks boscoe99,

I see the terms interchanged on a regular basis. At least now I know they're different beasts. Did some internet research.

only the EFI fourstroke motors have a diagnostic capeable ECU.
the CDI output thing is rather confusing.
most the larger 4 strokes used a TCI and all EFI motors used TCI.
that's why you don't see high and low charge coil specs on the 03 F90.
it doesn't use CDI it uses TCI.
the F115,F200 and F225 in the 03 lineup were all EFI motors.
        totally different ECU setup.
