• propellers - materials

I purchased a new set of 150 4 cycles engines. They came with a "stainless steel" propeller set. recently, I hit some sand and took some of the black paint off. I now see very strong rusting on parts of the exposed blades with some other areas having a normal stainless steel silver finish. I think the prop materials are poor since I have never seen stainless rust so much, the full surface is rust brown, with a small surface roughness s if it was CORE 10 or some other steel, and not stainles steel. Can any one advise on this?

miorelli,
I'm sure there are different grades of "stainless", and you may see some rusting - although I have not seen any on my Power Tech prop that came with my 2000 C115 Yamaha.
If you really want to know the answer, get in touch with a prop expert - he is the Power Tech prop rep for Louisiana - nice guy, and really knows the prop business. You can reach him at
marcus@ptprop.com . He will answer your e-mail and give you his phone number.
Good luck ,
