  • 2011 F300XCA water pump

Just bought a used rig and setting a base line replacing oil, water pump and foot oil. Tried to test crank in an extra large tote after repair and got no water from pee tube. Water level was above side water inlet screens. Not sure what is wrong, maybe water outlet from pump missed water inlet to motor, it is out of sight as foot closes. I dropped foot and reattached being very careful on alignment and will drop in at ramp to test as I broke tote. Motor ran and peed fine before I "fixed it".

Yamaha water pumps are not effective at 'self-priming' -
it doesn't pump air very well

with the water level only "above side water inlet screens "
    that's still ~ 6-8" BELOW the impeller/pump housing -
so you are asking a dry pump to pull water straight up that distance

conversely when the boat in is the water,
the entire water pump area is completely submerged

Thanks, had an idea this morning and hooked up flush connector and water ran from pee tube, water intake screens and prop hub. Going to back it in and crank just to be sure, don't want to spoil a trip latter if it doesn't work. I feel better.

That fixed it, just not deep enough.
