  • Electric choke / ignition switch

I have a 2004 two stroke 150 hp and having problem with electric choke not working 85% of the time . I checked choke itself and wiring No problems

Can the ignition switch be the problem? Anything I can do to test it or spray contact cleaner?

If the contacts of the push-to-choke function of the key switch are failing then certainly this can result in the choke solenoid failing to be activated when needed.

There is no repair that I am aware of. Key switch replacement time perhaps.

The only test that I can conjure up is an LED that is wired to illuminate when the choke switch is activated. If the choke solenoid does not activate and at the same time the LED does not illuminate that would tell me that the switch contacts are intermittently failing. Electrical power is not getting across the switch. This is an exception to the Yamaha general rule of using a ground to activate devices. In the case of a choke solenoid, positive power is used to activate it.
