  • Fuel filter question Yamaha 90 2 stroke 2008

i observed that while priming my outboard small amount of fuel seeps out of the fuel filter. Is this a sign of a failing fuel filter? It appears to seep out the top of the filter when under pressure from pumping priming bulb.

Will the repair then be to install a new fuel filter?

Try to tighten with your hand first.

why not open it up and see what the problem is and then find the parts needed

This is the fuel filter directly above and connected to the fuel pump.

                Part #6? : https://www.boats.net/catalog/yamaha...lr-0408/fuel-1

If so, as noted, spin the cup (part #8) off and inspect the o-ring seal. Likely that's what's leaking..

If the seal looks good, clean away residual fuel, prime with the bulb and look for exactly where it's leaking from.

Check and replace as needed the o-ring....a dab of grease on the o-ring and plastic filter cup threads helps the assembly go very smooth.....as well as the next time you need to unscrew it....

Okay, so get a new o-ring, inspect the bowl for cracks (likely fine), lube the o-ring with 2 stroke oil and re-install..
