  • New dual station added now engine won't stay in reverse

225 4 stroke, we added a tower and the Yamaha Dual station controls everything is fine except engine won't stay in reverse for more than 5 seconds. Pops out of gear and alarm sounds, put in neutral alarm stops, shift into reverse 5 seconds and it comes out of gear. Have checked all of the cable alignments at junction box and at the actuator all seem to be in spec. Any ideas?

cause you aints gotts no patiencess.

    easy on the obsolete controls.

what is seeing is a missed a shift.\
yep that set up sucked, its also now why its obsolete.

you either have a misadjusted TPS in the box, a miss adusted cable or a cable that's stiff.

Thanks Rodbolt. Yep patience is wearing thin. Replaced the TPS now the alarm works as it is supposed to. Still kicking out of reverse. The actuator throws the shift linkage into reverse no problem. After a few seconds it pulls it back out of reverse. Do you think the TPS is still out of adjustment? Plan on doing the voltage checks per the manual tonight or tomorrow. If voltage is in spec, what should I check next?

        not the ENGINE TPS.
there is a position sensor in the actuators.
        that's what is gigging you.
either a cable is stiff a cable is not adjusted correctly or one of the actuator TPS is out of spec.
        that system truly sucked eggs.
but the actuator ECU is seeing a missed shift.
that's why it kicks to N and sounds the alarm.
