You can pull out the white wire and socket, clean it individually, make sure that it tight and will make a good connection to the ECU pins, and then reinsert it. If you want one final check before spending the bucks for an new ECU.

I have no idea what your ECU looks like nor the connector(s). I do know connectors like to be nice and clean with no corrosion..

Especially since, per Rodbolt, they rarely go out. Your just unfortunate to be one of the few...

    Please post your final results..
    Ok ... Now I understand ..

I will do a thorough inspection and cleaning of the individual pins tomorrow and test again..

I agree ... I want to be 100% positive before I drop that much cash ..

    Thanks again ..

I will post updates as they surface...

      UPDATE .........

I tried my motor again and the engine failed to shut off.. I just wiggled the white wire connector and the motor shut down..
I could produce the same reaction sporadically, every time I revved my motor up and tried to shut it off..
Then, when it failed to shut sown all I had to do was wiggle or push on the white wire connector and VIOLA..
The motor would shut off again..

So, I cleaned each individual pin and each individual connector .....
AS to what TownsendsFJR1300 recommended ..
Seem to be a little white corrosion on 2 of the pins and connectors ..

Guess what.. the motor starts and stops every time !!!!! Yehaw !!!!!

I am guessing, that when I tapped the CDI with my screwdriver handle.. It must have been jarring the connector enough for it to work..
Then the vibration of the motor must have caused a poor connection until I tapped the connector..

Thanks to all that helped out ...
Happy Boating and have some great fishing !!!!!

        Excellent!

I would apply just a little bit of di-lectric grease at that connector and NEVER have another issue with it..

          glad ya got it going.
seems I mentioned corrosion about 2 pages ago.

actual ECU failure is very rare on jap and Volvo stuff.
gets blamed a lot but actually, its rare.

            Yes you did ...
I guess I just didn't take a close enough look,,
Was concentrating on the wiring harness ..

            Once again..
Thanks for all the help ..

I hope this thread will help others like me ..
