  • Yamaha 2003(F40BWHT) Tilt N Trim issue's!!!

    Hi all,

Had a small issue with my tilt n trim yesterday. When trying to raise the engine its very slow and sometimes doesn't even move(going up or down)! It's very noisy and sounds like it's grinding. I'll post some pictures up of the engine. There is some fluid leaking I'll post the picture of that as well. I'm still new to boating and would love for someone to tell me where I can top up some tilt n trim fluid, can it just be that there's not enough fluid?

I would love any help with this. Thank you all in advanced.
    Regards
    Bash

      disassemble it, fix the leaks.

      its a sealed hydraulic system.

any leaks means its simply broken.
don't top it off, fix it.

          a hard fix?
          for me? nope.
          for you? mostly impossible.
there are some special tools that are simply a MUST.
and its probably one of the more complex hydraulic units on the market.

about the onlything the average backyard tech can do with that unit is remove it and take it to a dealer.

try to find a dealer that employs a master tech.
at least that way you know they at least have the manuals and classroom tech specs.
that single ram system can be a PITA.

Thanks so much. The best thing to do is take it to a marine mechanic. Thanks and I'll do that asap. Thanks for the help.

make sure its a factory trained Yamaha or merc tec.

look for drivetrain certification on the wall.

its about the most difficult pt&t system on the market.

don't use joe schmoe mobile marine no matter what the labor rate difference.

that motor was designed and built by mercury marine, so a merc dealer should be able to fix it if a Yamaha dealer isn't avalible.

Will it be a expensive fix by any chance? What ever it costs it will only be done by a certified tech. No short cuts or cheap jobs with me. Can't thank you enough for your advice.
