Cheers, will give that a crack, also spotted another thread with hooking up a 12v source to a couple of wires to see if the solenoid is buggered.

its just to simple to test.
using a digital multi meter place the meter leads on the relay motor terminals.
hit the switch up and down.
one direction the meter should read 12V the other -12v.
if it does and the trim motor does not run, it is most likely the culprit.
if the voltage is not there test the ground and power terminals.
see how simple this is?
trim motors die all the time, relays fail.
its electrical devices,age and water.

50 hp four stroke trim/lift problem
Hi all, new to the forum.
I have just bought a quintrex 4.75m runabout with a yamaha 50hp four stroke on the back. I took it out the other day for a spin and the trim/lift packed it in. The outboard switch on the side makes a clicking sound when power is on but the outboard doesn't do diddly squat. The only fuse I can find is fine. Outboard starts and works fine, just no trim or lift.
After ringing a couple of places they named a few things that would be wrong from lift motor and solenoids all costing heaps of dosh.
I had a squizz through the forum and found where people have had to fill the lift cylinder resovoir and hey presto all sorted.
I have the owners manual and the outboard is either a F50A or a FT50B. Don't know what the difference is and it's around a 1998-1999 model.
Has anyone had the same problem?
