  • 2004 Yamaha 40 2-Stroke Squeak at Idle

Our 2004 Yamaha 2-Stoke squeaks occasionally when idling. Strange kind of squeak, not like the 4 stroke yamahas I've had in the past with the faint whine. All other speeds power is great and not problems. Does start a bit tough requiring a couple starts to keep running when cold, doesn't seems much worse than other 2-strokes I've had. Not sure where to start to troubleshoot. Thanks in advance!

Not sure if you have a lean sneeze at idle due to pilot passages plugging or if the squeak is a continuous noise

Thanks for the reply. Not always continuous, however does seem consistent when engines dies at idle - or just about to die. Suggestion is to clean carbs?

clean carbs( most likely) and then set like service manual calls for
or find vacuum leak( less likely)
