  • 40HP won't start when its hot

I have a 1999 40 that starts fine when its cold but doesn't even crank when its hot. I can start it using the pull cord or if I let it sit and cool down it starts.

can we maybe get a model number?
there was more than one model of a 40 HP in 1999.

Does the relay click but starter does not engage into the flywheel or even try to turn?

took you awhile to get back

Time to get out the volt meter to see where you have voltage and where you do not while trying to start when the problem is there
Key switch, start relay, and neutral safety switch are some places to start checking
