sounds like you will be doing what Rodbolt mentioned and pull the head to remove that plug.

or break it off and use something they made to remove plugs from Ford V8s when they break off.
you would think pieces would end up down in the cylinders after doing that without pulling the head

          does it still run OK?
if so then leave it until you have the time.

I take it this motor does not belong to you

thinking outside of the box, have you ever seen or used one of those sockets that have a bunch of pins in it that will take the shape of what you slide it over?

might work, but not sure there is anything there for it to get a bite on

it was originally a 5/8ths hex. they rust away with well maintained machines.
sometimes you can use a 15mm 12 point deep and drive it over the rusted part.

Yes I can see that...a socket that is to small for the what is left there and drive it on over it.

post up pics of the ones you pulled out from the side and from the top (like the one still in) to see if there is some major differences

definitely post up a pic of that plug once you do get it out. we all would like to see what happened to it

does the normal plug socket even fit semi tight?
maybe tack welding small spots on the socket to grab it more

trying to put up a even larger pic.
                              lets see if this works

Nope I cannot get the pic to post up at 300%.
but if you do blow it up as much as you can, I see the remains of some flat spots .
looks like it rusted away like Rod mentioned
hard to see since it is dark rust colored against that dark block, right below the silver metal ring

like they already said, try different sockets even if you have to drive them on

or cut some strips of metal shim stock to slide in the 6 point socket and drive that onto the plug

Ok I think I got a pic this time

May have to click on pic to open it up
then right click on the pic

                                then click
                                view image
' then click on Ctrl and + until the image is large enough to see well
