  • 2001 225 Vmax Excessive Smoke

I am running a 2001 225 Vmax that has an excessive smoke problem (not just at cold start). To date I have decarbed the engine, cleaned the O2 sensor, replaced the drae tube, and replaced both thermostats. Also, the oil adjusting arm is bottomed out at the stop.

Any suggestions on how to correct the smoke issue? The Clymer manual says to check the throttle position indicator with a Yamaha test harness however I did not see that part (harness) available on the Boats.net site. FYI, the engine runs great, just smokes alot at start up.

Some extra smoke at cold start up is not uncommon because the left over oil in engine will puddle. If it's a cloud of smoke then remove oil pump and check oil seal in back of pump.

Are you refering to the 0-ring #93210-19M82-00?

FYI. I checked the throttle position sensor and it is correct.

On some models the seal is in the distance collar and some have seal in oil pump which would have to replace oil pump if seal is leaking. You will see when remove oil pump.
