  • 1996 50 hp outboard won't switch off

some one had previously installed an emergency kill lanyard/switch. now it is defective, I have removed it from shift box but now I can't kill the engine. after starting with the key switch and try to turn it off it continues to run. What wires need to be connected internally for the keey off position to work. OR what wire should I hook a kill switch on the engine. what wire can I short to ground that will stop the engine. THe boat is at a remote location and I return in two weeks to it and have to solve that problem

The white wire(ignition wire) in main harness needs to be connected to ignition switch( connected to both ign switch and landyard switch if landyard switch is used)
