  • Water pump question

I am replacing in a 1992 p200tlrq. Question is that the pump kit I ordered was 6g5-w0078-01-00 and was superseded to 6g5-w0078-a1-00. Everything in the kit looks right except the impeller cup. It fits in the housing right but the hole in the top is not big enough to slip over the 3 washers bushing and sleeve that preloads the impeller. Do these new kits not use the preload components? I have been working on Mercs for 26 years and they don't use that stuff.

May have had lower unit changed to a newer lower unit, 61A-W0078-A3-00 water pump kit will work.

the 1992 200 lower did NOT use the collar and washer assy.
1995 and up v motors did.
you will need the 61a-w0078-a3 kit.
depending on which housing you may also need a different pump housing.
depends on the holes for indexing the cup.
\and its not an impeller preload, it simply holds the driveshaft against the upper bearing and keeps the knocking noise to a minimum.
if the collar and washer assy got lost all you may notice is a knocking sound at an in gear idle.
