You have an oldy but goody control box. It used a toggle switch (what you call a stick knob) between the key switch and the kill switch to activate the choke.

Take a look at your new control box. Push the key in and see what happens. It will move in and is spring loaded to move back out. This is the updated choke function.

So, instead of having a key in one hand to crank the motor, and a toggle switch in the other hand to activate and deactivate the choke, you can now just do both functions at one time, with one hand.

Note that the ten pin harness running from the control box to the motor has a dark blue wire. That wire is for the choke circuit. When the toggle switch is depressed (old version) or the key switch pushed in (new version) 12 volt power is applied to the blue wire to activate the choke solenoid. But remember, most of Yamaha stuff is activated using a ground signal and not by applying 12 volt power. The choke circuit is an exception to the rule, if there is such a rule.
