  • Install Dual Battery SW

Plan to move the Battery forward & install a battery sw.

    Aluminum boat

Dual Battery Switch wiring question ? ?
    Some say switch the +12V
Some say Switch the - 12V
    What is best?
    Is there a standard?

    Opinions/reasons?
Negative side switched like on heavy equipment like Cat.
Safer if ground is removed from all metal ?
The only place I see negative getting to the boat is thru the engine mounting.

    2.
Is #4 wire large enough for about a 10 foot run?

What size motor do you have? If it's a V6 fuel injected then can use 4 gauge if total length of cable is under 13 feet, if over use 2 gauge.
    Switch positive cable.

The motor is grounded to the boat. Nothing that you can do about it. Think of the motor and the boat as being one, from a grounding standpoint.

Generally, the positive feed from the battery is switched. On when the motor is being used. Off when the motor is not being used.

Engine batt leads reach to within 8 ft.

        Single batt
No battery drain on a river boat,
Engine start & a tach I just installed.
bilge pump, that needs wired in

Will go with + lead disconnect.
Use a dual batt Sw in case I ever want to add dual batts.
