  • 2002 250 OX66 ?Starter? problem...

I am having problem re: starter problems, wherein my starter does not seem to be getting enough power. Battery is brand new, all cables are fine, etc. When checking the voltage during the "redneck" jumper cable test i am only getting just under 6 volts, which is not enough to spin/fire up. The starter clearly works (I actually used ANOTHER good starter to make sure it wasn't that), but doesn't seem to be turning fast enough. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok now that you started your own thread, I thank you.

What is the red neck jumper test?
Just exactly where did you measure the 6 v during this test?

How do you know the cables and all connections are good?

Seems you have to be wrong on some of this info as the voltage getting to starter should be a lot closer to 12 if you measured the 6v at the starter.

Cables do go bad internally or any high resistance connection will cause voltage drop.

Is it possible the motor or the lower unit is binding up and causing an overload on the starter. Drawing too much current and the battery and/or cables can not furnish it without dropping the voltage
