Let me answer your last question first. You are right where you need to be to find all of the part numbers that are used on your motor. Click on the "Purchase Yamaha Parts" button in red at the upper right hand section of this page. It will take you to the Yamaha parts catalog.

In your case, then click on the "2004" button. Then click on the "T50TLRC" button. Then click on the "Lower Casing Drive 1" (or 2) button. The first part listed in the lower unit. Part number 64J-45300-30-4D is shown.

Now do the same drill for the 1998 model. Part number 64J-45300-11-4D is shown for the lower unit.

Note that the basic part numbers are one and the same. The difference is the dash number. A -11 was used for the 1998 model and a -30 was used for the 2004 model. The two parts should be interchangeable. Obviously the older part will not be the latest configuration but it will plug and play with your motor.

        They do not fit
        the 1998 T50TLRW has a smaller shaft the the 2004 T50TLRC
bought a unit tried to install does not work

        main shaft #'s same for 2001 - 2006
        1996 - 1998 different
        1999 - 2000 different

What shaft are you referring to? Propeller shaft or drive shaft?

Your original question related to the lower unit assembly, not any shaft.

Hope you are not trying to compare an F50 lower unit/shaft with a T50 lower unit/shaft. If so, you may get the shaft.

            main shaft

the prop shaft was a little different too, splines did not go all the way down, but prop fit ok

the power shaft was different, splines are smaller
after looking at parts I see 2001 - 2006 uses the same shaft and 1996 - 1998 is different as well as 1999 - 2000

I should've looked into it more, lol

so I have a good lower unit that fits a T50 from 1996 - 1998 if any one needs one.

              no cheap way out lol

              Hi all,

Have been looking for a lower unit for a 2004 T50TLRC
Bought one on line off a T50TLRW (he said it was anyway)
Thought it would work, but seems the power shaft splines are smaller.
it all fit but shaft just turned in the coupler.
the prop shaft was different too, splines did not go down as far
gear housing same size so it must be a high thrust unit

              ordered new one from boats.net

am wondering if there is any way to determine part # of a lower unit without the main outboard

              questions,

can a person find specs on parts, as in number of splines / diameter of shaft?

Many thanks for a cheap guy, lol
