  • overflow hole under the gas cap

My question is not specifically about the Yamaha motor (I do have the 225 HP) but I'm hoping someone can help me.

My center console (Bay Stealth, no longer in business) has the gas cap mounted in a housing on the side of the console. There is a overflow hole under the gas cap. I'm thinking this must be for spill containment (or maybe it's just to protect the gas cap?). But water also gets in there. Can anyone tell me where this drains to? Does it drain to the bilge or back to the gas tank?

If it drains to the tank, water would contaminate the gas. If it drains to the bilge, it would contaminate the water. ??

My tank is inside the hull. There's a black rubber pipe hooked to the drain then goes into the floor. There is a floor access plate inside the center console. I may have to unscrew the plate to take a look. Hoping I wouldn't have to do that but I've searched for hours and can't find the answer.
