Looking at buying a used 17 foot bowrider. I've narrowed down my selection to two boats with different engines.
    One is a 2000 F100 carb 4 stroke and the other 1997 130hp V4 saltwater series 2 stroke.
Both boats are the same price and it will mainly be used probably every third weekend for cruising with the family (not *****ing)
I'm leaning towards the 130 for the power and low maintanance.
Is the fuel saving going to be that great with the 4 stroke?
Or will the efficiency and quietness of the 4 stroke make up for its power defiency?
Any feedback will be much appreciated.

I detest the carbed 4 strokes.
not from a desighn standpoint but from a fuel issue standpoint.
the passages in the 4 stroke carbed engines are so tiny it takes nothing to clog them.
it takes 4-6 hours to clean them and a 4 channel manometer to resync them after cleaning.
I can clean the carbs and replace the fuel pump on that 130 in 1.5 hours or so.

other than the fuel issues both are decent engines if they have been maintained by someone who has a clue.

however they are almost 15 years old and way out of warrenty.
