Winterize?

Hi All,
Thank you for all the assistance so far. If I may ask one more question…
Our winters here in South Africa are not as severe as the UK or the United States.
What would be your opinion if I don’t winterize my Yamaha 130, but I start it every weekend and run it at a fast idle on muffs from the garden hose, (We have quite a high water pressure on our water supply), run for 10-15 minutes, up to operating temp, and then shut it down until next the next weekend.
Would this constitute too much idling or is this ok? The motor is in peak condition with 205 hours on it.

when we "winterize" an outboard we are not looking at cold weather issues. outboards don't have them.
we are trying to protect the fuel system and the shiney parts.

Winterize?

Hi Rodbolt,
Thanks for that! I understand that the "shiny bits" can get sore!
But is it not better to run it every weekend? Then it gets fresh fuel and oil through the motor.
I am not a the coast, so I don't have a rust problem and the motor is only used in fresh water.
What would be your advise on this?

if its working for you then do it.
wont hurt anything.
rust is rust and if you are in a high humidity area it will rust on the shiney parts unless used or protected.
typically Yamaha recommends"winterizing" for any extended storage(30 days or more)

If storage goes beyond a month, I will winterize as per specs on 'Boats.net'
