  • Problem after overheating 1997 60hp 2 stroke

I was out salmon fishing and on the way in I wrapped some kelp around the water intake. The warm motor alarm went off. I shut it down, cleared the intake, let it cool. When I started back up, there was no alarm horn so it had cooled and the pee stream fine. The idle was normal, but when I put it under load it runs rough. I thought maybe I cooked a head gasket. I limped in on my kicker motor.
I got home and hooked up the compression tester and got an even 120 lbs on all cylinders, plugs looked perfect and no sign of any leakage outside the cylinders at gasket joints
So could the heat have damaged something in the CD ignition or maybe the fuel pump?

    Thanks for any ideas.

The alarm buzzer goes off well before probable overheat damage, so it sounds like a coincidental issue....maybe a fuel-related problem?...

      Thanks,

I will swap out an extra fuel pump I have and dump the water separating filter in a jar to look for water.
