  • New 25 hp 2 stroke question about charging system

I just purchased one of the last new 25 hp 2 strokes in my area( built November 2011) ....I also bought a rectifier and installed it ..motor has 2 green wires from coil under flywheel and 1 yellow/red ..... 1 pink coming out of the CDI box ....NO other loose/open wires

The Yamaha rectifier I installed has 2 green , 1 black and 1 red with inline fuse

I joined the 2 green to the 2 green , black to engine ground and red to battery positive

With engine running at idle output is 6 volts , increase rpm and I have 20 - 25 volts ....way too high !!!!

Checked output of pink and yellow/green wires ...nothing at all , idle or half throttle

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT OR A WIRING DIAGRAM OF THE GENERATOR CIRCUT , MORE SPECIFIC ..WIRE COLORS

    Thanks

    Chris

A rectifier only converts AC voltage to DC voltage. It does not regulate the voltage.

Perhaps you now need to add the following:

typically on the small engines the battery is the regulator.
however occasionally we have to add a regulator.
