  • Yamaha 130 Fuel pump

    Hi Guys,
    Thanks for the advice! I have found the solution to my problem (above).
    I hung a 1 gallon can from the roof of my workshop with a hose running down to the fuel feed pipe. I disconnected the primer squeeze bulb and fed the fuel straight into the fuel line. I then bypassed the fuel pump with a short metal pipe. In other words the carbs were fed by gravity.
    Started the motor and presto! Problem solved!

    Now,

    I then inspected the fuel pump and found that for some reason it was leaking air and or fuel. I found this by blowing (with my mouth) into and against the non-return side of the pump. That pump is obviously allowing fuel into the block behind the carbs where it is mounted and enriching the amount of fuel to the left bank two cylinders.

    Now my question is…? do I buy a new pump? (the cost is ridiculous in South Africa), or do I fit an electronic solid state pump in the fuel line?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    you can buy just the parts needed, Take pump apart and inspect what is needed if you do not want to buy complete pump

      Fuel pump problem solved!

      Hi 99yam40,
      Thanks for the advice.
      I opened the pump and found the one diaphragm was torn!
      This was obviously the problem. Went off to my favorite Yamaha dealer, bought the two diagrams, fitted them to the pump and all is well.
      The only problem was the price! ZAR 400 (South African rands), which equates to $40 dollars! For two diagrams!!
      Anyhow, the motor is ok and running well.

        You know what they always say, a boat is a hole in the water you just keep throwing money into

        Seems a new pump is close to same price for just parts sometime.
        must have heavy import duties, taxes, shipping, or someone makes a lot of money on parts over there

            here in the states the parts are about 30, a new pump is about 45.
            at 90 an hour I wont rebuild them anymore.

              Fuel pump

                Carburetor pilot screws setting?

                Hi again guys,
                Can I ask... on the 1999 Yamaha 130 BETOL, what is the setting for the pilot screws on the carbs? When I had the pump problem I stripped and cleaned the carbs and replaced gaskets in them. They are set now at one full turn out and the motor is running sweetly from idle to WOT. - I've been told one full turn to one and a half turns. What is the correct setting?? - - Thanks in advance.

                  Hi Speedcop, looking at my manual (I have worked on the 130BETO), it states:
                  Adjustment steps
                  (1) Turn in the pilot screw 1 until it is
                  lightly seated.
                  (2) Turn out the pilot screw 1 the specified number of turns.

                  Pilot screw (turns out)
                  100A, E115A/100TR: 1-1/4 ± 1/4

                  115B, 115C, S115C/
                  C115TR, 115TR, S115TR,
                  B115TR: 5/8 ± 1/4

                  130B, S130B, L130B,
                  140B/130TR, S130TR,
                  L130TR: 7/8 ± 1/4

                    Here in SA, Yamaha has in excess of 45% of the market! It's easy to see why.
