  • adding a charging system / elec start

Is it possible to add electric start and a charging system to an '89 25SF with tiller?

    I was told that I couldn't.....I don't like that!

It seems that there is a place in the casting for a starter.

    Any suggestions?

Yamaha doesn't offer it in kit form, you have to buy all the parts separately to make the conversion. It's expensive but it is possible.

That's what I wanted to hear.
Any ideas what exactly I need, and part #'s of same.
(or do I just get parts from a similar year that came with parts for Elect?)

      thanks,

      Bryan

        Go to http://www.boats.net/yamaha/partsyst...9eb7684e14daba
You will need everything on that page and 6L2-81800-11-00 STARTING MOTOR ASSY. Not sure if your motor has starter bracket or not you can look thru parts list at Electrical parts to see if the bracket is same.

Can I just add a charging loop with out the starter?
If so to I need only the rectifier, or do I need more than that?

          thanks.

              boats.net,
Does that "rectifier assy" have a regulator built into it? If not, then Bryan will need to add one between it and the battery, I believe.

No Ken it does not have a regulator just a rectifier as you know changes AC voltage to DC voltage. Usually you don't need a regulator on a small motor unless you have electronics installed which are voltage senitive(fish finders, GPS), the 25hp only has a 6 amp alternator(6 amps at wide open throttle) and normally not run for long periods at a time.

                  Thanks for the info.
I think that's the way I'm going. Electric start on a 25 is overkill I think anyway.

                  1 more thing though.
Do you guys know what the compression in PSI should be on that engine?

                  thx.
