  • Engine Abruptly Seems to run on one cylinder

I have a 1991 Yamaha 2 cycle 70TLRP outboard that has been garage kept and probably has less than 200 hours on it. I run in salt water and purges it with fresh water after usage. It runs great, but recently at speed it mostly shuts down with the alarm sounding. The water pump is less that 18 months old and the squirter works a normal. I put the motor out of gear and rev the engine. After a minute or so it clears and we are off to the races. Would junked up carbs be the issue?

most likly not, your describing an overheat issue.

clean your water intake as it would have clogged with debry or salt deposit and when run at load in gear the alarm will sound and the rev will drop down ,i would be putting some warm water with some dissolving liquid to clear the rubbish build up
      cheers
