  • Voltage Regulator for Yamaha D500

Hello, I have a 1998 Yamaha D5001F-97117 outboard motor. The regulator / charger (that recharges the batteries) burned up. There was no numbers to be read from it, it was a burned to the crip black mess. I have tried and tried to find a replacement unit but have had no success. The two that I did buy did not work, they both overheated, one burned up just like the old one. Yes I am sure there is not a short on the output side of the regulator. I did measure the output of the generator that feeds the regulator and it puts out 70VAC!!! Yikes, that is a lot of current to charge a 12 volt battery? Can anyone supply me with the correct part number and a price for a replacement unit?

Don't know what a D500 is, is it a outboard?
