  • WOT rpm?

    I have gotten mixed answers but I have a 1995 Viper Cobra 188 single console with a 150 Yamaha pro-v. Not sure if this even matters but 25p prop and 6inch setback. What rpm should I be getting on this motor for optimal performance at WOT?

    I have been told between 5500 - 5800 rpm but then read somewhere that it is 5,000. Also, anybody know what the limiter is as well?

    For the 2 stroke motors optimal RPM at WOT are around 5500RPM more or less

      Rev limiter should kick in at 6200 RPM.

        the rev limiter is an engine protection device NOT a propping goal.

        all the US market P150 motors used 4500-5500 RPM as an operating range with a note to prop closer to 5500 than 5000.
        but no extended running above 5500 RPM.

          How about a pair of 2000 150 HP OX66's pushing a 23 foot bluewater sportfish? I'm getting 4400... seems like it might be low.
          If its got teats or tires, you bound to have trouble with it....

            about 1000 RPM low.
            but I dont know if its one engine,both engines or the hull.
            a quick test with test wheel number YB-1626 willl tell you.

                Any idea what would be the v best pitch prop for that setup? Running a 25 pitch currently but seems to possibly be too underpowered.

                    rpm/speed

                    So I took out yesterday with prop to pad at 3.5 inches, 6 inch setback, 25p tempest 3blade prop and was running 5300 rpm at about 57mph by myself, empty livewells, and about 3/4 tank of gas. I think I am really close if not already there. do you think a smaller pitch prop would increase the rpm's too much?

                        Well there are no boats that really match mine there so tough to gauge. I was simply explaining my setup and what rpm's and speed I was getting with the engine heighth, setback, rpm's, and prop pitch. I am a little confused on what you don't understand.
                        Thanks for checking though; I think I am nearly at optimum performance at this point.

                          You are close,
                          might consider sending your prop to a good prop shop and let them clean it up.
                          Give them your set up and rpm, you need about 200 RPM.
                          They can tweak it to get what you need.

                            Someone told me 1" pitch equates about 150 rpm.
                            I'm just relating what the guy at the shop suggested from his experience...
                            Anyone?

                              Would another quarter inch of engine height give me that extra couple hundred rpm do you think?
