  • Yamaha 40...

    Hi,
I have been given 2 yamaha 40's(2 stroke)...they have been standing for a number of years(not sure how long)......they date from the mid 80's and are electric start.
I have a number of questions, but for now i just want to find out if they turn over or not..... so whats the best and easiest way to do this.

All the wiring looks like it has never been connected, but the props look like they have done a few hours......over all they are very very clean engines.
They are on a stand in my garage...... and i dont know how to about it.

    Thanks Guys......

To start out I would pull plugs and look inside cylinders the best you can, turn motors over with manual start rope to see if they are free, check for spark while pulling rope, then hook up compression tester on each cylinder and see it you get an even compression.

If that ends up Ok then pull and clean carbs, check fuel pump , and then worry about hooking up battery if all is good
