  • Support Bracket Power trim & Tilt should be painted?

    Hi!

Should the support bracket/PTT assy and all parts of the outboard that are dived in the water painted with anti-fouling (of course not the anodes/zinks) or not?

Let me read your opinion please.

Heard some guys that say yes and others say no.

    if left overboard?
    yes.
however you cannot and MUST not use a copper based paint.
ONLY use paints reccomended for AL.
copper based paints can destroy the aluminium brackets and gearcases in less than 1 season.

For years I've sprayed my tilt and trim motor, rams, pump, bracket, etc. with white Lithium Grease...sets up an excellent water resistant protective coating. There are also some other "Corrosion Protectant sprays on the market that may be good....

Robert, just curious, does the white lithium prevent growth on the brackets?
