  • Slow starting 4stroke

I dont have the exact model number of the motor. Its a 2005 yamaha 4stroke, 115hp.

Past few mornings out. Its been slow slow starting. It doesnt seem sluggish just turns over and ovet and over and wont fire. Finally after a bit, it will eventually fire a time or two then putter out. Then to fire and run correctly... a few times the starter it self will not engage just spins it self out. (Zzzzzzzzzz). Im curious as to weather look for an ignition problem or starter problem.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

a couple of things come to mind, when the starter just goes zzzzzzzz that is a sign of low amperage, you can have 12 v at the starter just not enough wire connection for the load. ( loose or bad ground is usually the issue) also you could be loosing prime in the fuel rail, or fuel line to the engine, are you pumping the primer bulb. try this, before you start the enigne, cycle the key a few times to build fuel pressure in the fuel rail, have about 5 seconds between key cycles, see if the engine starts any better, if this helps then there is a fuel pressure regulator issue, report back.

Check to make sure you don't have bad fuel.

ok takes a good hot battery to crank this beast or the ign, injectors and fuel pumps fall offline.
check all your battery connections and do a voltage drop test.
like sequoia said, its possible to have 12V in a static test.
a voltage drop test will tell the story.
