  • thermostat?

    hi all,
i have a ft8 on my contessa 26, i rate it highly until recently when it showed sighns of over heating. it has had very little use as i sail almost everwere. i flushed it in a tank of fresh water and it seems fine, then when i put it into gear the water tell tail slows and steam starts to blow out of the hole. if iswitch it off then start it again it seems fine. i am starting to think it may be the thermostat.....
    any ideas?
    many thanks

The water passages in the engine are quite small and plug up with salt deposits easily. I would definatly remove the thermostat, and clean up any deposits. Replace it if it's siezed. should also remove side covers and clean up as well. Probably a good idea to replace the waterpump as well.

blow boat motors are typically the most neglected engines on the planet.
when was the last water pump and t stat replacement?
book says every 2oo hours OR yearly , whichever occurs FIRST.

        thermostat?

the engine is less than a year old and always flushed in fresh water. it has maybe 10-15 hours on it.
        thanks
